Energize Your Logos with Animation

by Brian Katsis on July 11, 2015 in Video Production with Comments Off

It’s almost impossible to be living today without having seen animation, because it’s all around us. There is animation in almost everything we like to watch on TV, from popular cartoons like Family Guy or the Simpsons, to animated GIFs in memes on the Internet or in Internet ads. Animation has been around for many decades – Snow White and the Seven White Dwarfs, the first animated movie, came out in 1937 (Source).

What is Animation and Animated Logos?

Animation is the process that enables us to make motionless pictures seem like they are moving and alive by filming them at a fast pace. An animated logo is simply the animation of a mixture of symbols or words that identifies a company.  AVP can help your business with creating an animated logo as our professional team works with you every step of the way to create a finished product.

What Makes it Important?

It Makes a Positive first Impression

The unique motion of an animated logo creates a lasting positive impression that becomes embedded in your conscious and subconscious mind. The iconic moonwalk MTV logo, for example, made the TV show incredibly popular at the time. Not only did people consider the logo fascinating, but people recognize it more than most other logos(Source).

It Tells a Story and Helps Connect with Your Audience

Animated logos can tell stories and connect at an emotional level using their motion. By implementing motion that accurately represents the brands identity, the logo creates an emotional connection with the target audience. A good example of commercials that connect on an emotional level are the Subaru ads.

Effective TV Ads

In recent commercials, Subaru describes their compact SUVs as appealing both to families and adventurers. One ad that markets the Subarau Crosstrek, features a couple driving down a road until they encounter a fork in the road.   One path leads to an adventure in the wilderness, while the other involves going to department stores. In a fairly quick decision they choose to take the adventure path.  As a result of the decision, the commercial conveys that the car is both rugged and cost-effective.  Thus, you can go on a spontaneous adventure with the car, and a family can afford it.

A strong bond forms between the viewer and the business’ brand after watching this sort of commercial. This connection can be positive, negative, or neutral depending on the person, but if it’s an effective commercial and there is some animation to the logo, it will probably create a positive connection.

Who Benefits from Having an Animated Logo?

It’s truly worthwhile to to put the required time and effort into making an animated logo.  Businesses that do will receive more attention and sell more than businesses that don’t have animated logos. For example, Shazam and Twitch are two major brands that have animated logos that you may see on a regular basis.   The animated logos truly display the brands’ energy.
