Using Youtube in 2015

by Brian Katsis on June 15, 2015 in Video Production with Comments Off

In 2005, Youtube was created for users to share their low-quality amateurishly shot videos with the world or simply keep visual memories recorded by the casual mobile phone user. Over the years Youtube has blossomed into a fully loaded social media platform, with the power-users attempting to do two things:

1. To earn money with Youtube Partnership Program:

Anyone with access to the internet can upload a video to YouTube and with that you are well on your way to becoming an offical Youtube Partner.

A few years ago, you could only become a YouTube partner if you applied directly and were approved, or if you received a personal invite from Google (how prestigious!). Now, it’s not so difficult. If you have an account in good standing (No history of breaking Youtube’s terms or marks against your account) you can become a YouTube partner. This allows Youtube to place advertising within your channel, often in the beginning of a video. Google makes money from the views of these ads and partners can then earn a percentage via a Google Adsense account.

Successful partners earn anywhere between $0.30 to $2.50 CPM (Clicks Per Thousand), but some YouTube’s biggest players will earn closer to a $10 CPM!

It makes sense why Youtubers don’t hesitate to become partners of Youtube. Create interesting and sharable content, upload videos, and accumulate a strong number of subscribers, and suddenly your Youtube channel can earn money from advertising.

2. Use Youtube for Advertising:

A business’ real purpose on Youtube is to get audience’s attention and strengthen that brand recognition while introducing products. While Youtube is a social media platform, it is also a business tool to reach a target audience.

To do that, the advertising video needs to be uploaded on Youtube, then choose the relevant types of Youtube advertisement: in-stream, in-slate, in-search or in-display. 3 of them only request to pay when viewers watch the ads, the first one, is only paid if 30 seconds or more are watched.

There are a lot of advantages when utilizing Youtube’s advertising service. There are several reasons why a business may choose Youtube as a channel to advertise their products or brands instead of the traditional channels like TV, radio, newspaper or magazine. One of the obvious reasons is the affordable advertisement budget. The affordability is great for small businesses looking to garner some exposure and stay competitive in their market. Another one is the ability to target specific audiences.
Not to mention, you can get a specific and countable statistics to analyze to ensure next time your advertising will be better. So if you think Youtube Ads are right for you, do your research and give it a shot!
